Attended Oakhurst Elementary School when parents lived on Elder Avenue in
Charlotte, NC. In 3rd grade, parents moved to Mt Holly - Huntersville Rd north
of Charlotte to be near Maurice's parents. Attended Long Creek Elementary,
Ranson Jr High, Alexander Jr High, and North Mecklenburg High Schools.
Received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the US Air Force
Academy in 1976, and entered the USAF as a pilot. Assigned to Columbus AFB, MS
for training 1976-77. Transferred to McGuire AFB, NJ in 1978 to pilot C-141s.
Met Belinda, also in the Air Force and stationed at McGuire, on a temporary
assignment to Goose Bay, Labrador. Volunteered for Airfield Manager tour at RA
Bentwaters, England, UK 1982-85 to be near maternal grandmother Withers.
Assigned to Charleston AFB, SC 1985-89; piloted C-141s and was a
mission planner. Assigned to 21st Air Force HQ, McGuire AFB, NJ, 1989-92 as a
command post officer and mission director. Assigned to Civil Air Patrol liaison
region staff, Andrews AFB, MD, 1992.
